Abgnet is the personal blog and site of Abhi Ghosh, currently a second year medical student at Oxford University. The site itself has been through a frankly ridiculous number of iterations in its time since 2002, from mis-matched online playground to design gallery, and has finally landed up here as a blog of 'science, news technology and design'. (I've judged this to be a wide enough spectrum to cover practically all interesting topics that come my way, considering I have a passion for all of the above).
Semantic web standards are very important at Abgnet, as well as a focus on clean, accessible, creative design. If you have any comments or suggestions about the site, feel free to send me a message. I also also produce some websites commercially, so get in touch if this floats your boat.
Although XHTML/CSS are my tools of choice for producing accessible sites (inspired for example by the wonderful designs at CSS Zen Garden), I also hold a soft spot for flash, and believe it still holds an important place in the design world. Over the years, careless use and poorly produced animation have worn down its good name, but it remains an excellent choice for producing cross browser compatible applications capable of giving users a little more oomph than your every day website. Like many-a-thing, moderation is the key.
This site is powered by a custom pure xml blogging engine, built using a few ideas from a light xml based blog script, FeatherNews. This has been extensively reworked to include search/archive functions, and full visual editing tools. In addition, pull parsing has been employed to increase scalability. The gallery portion is a dynamic flash operation built from scratch.
